Respect and Protect or Develop and Destroy Save Sandyhills Beach and Bay
Still all at Assessment Stage
11th March - Revised Car Park Plan
Over 550 objections have been sent to the council
Over 70 people have donated to our legal fund
Save Sandyhills Group formed last year with Residents, Friends and the Local Community .
Our aim is to help preserve and protect Sandyhills Beach from inappropriate development.
At our in person meeting at Colvend Public Hall the latest updates were explained and
Colvend & Southwick Community Council (CSCC) informed the meeting of their progress. So far CSCC have had no response to their various questions from Dumfries and Galloway Council.
There actually is very little new information and we wait to hear the outcome of Dumfries & Galloway Council's planning decisions.
Save Sandyhills Group legal team have written letters of representation to the Council highlighting pertinent facts and legal precedents.
During the meeting our constitution was fully adopted and we are inviting supporters to join us as a member of Save Sandyhills Group.
There was a discussion about fund raising and it was agreed to organise some events over the next few months. If you feel you can help us please let us know.

Our aim is to work with everyone who is concerned with retaining the enjoyment of visiting this beautiful beach and bay.
The proposed applications would severely impact our beautiful unspoilt beach, sand dunes, and woodland. With the potential increased size of the ' Site ' the pressure on the environment will be huge and irreversible.
The visual impact of such a development in the heart of the designated East Stewartry Coast National Scenic Area (NSA) will be immense.
Sandyhills is one of the finest, unspoilt beaches in Dumfries & Galloway and currently offers open access to all.
This website has been commissioned by local residents of Sandyhills to help keep everyone who loves Sandyhills up to date with the progress of the various planning applications . You can also stay up to date by joining our Facebook page or find us on Instagram. We would be grateful if you can spread the word far and wide and get others to follow progress too.
Sandyhills Beach right now needs your help.
Thank you.
YOUR DONATION WILL HELP US WORK TO PREVENT INAPPROPRIATE DEVELOPMENT
We thank you for all your support with over 3000 hits on this website alone.
Sandyhills is one of the finest, long renowned, unspoilt beaches and natural environments in Dumfries & Galloway, offering open access to all - right in the heart of the East Stewartry Coast National Scenic Area.
The proposed vast expansion of Sandyhills Bay carpark and Holiday Park right by the bay and its foreshore would be inconsistent and non-compliant with D&G’s approved Local Development Plan and its related Management Strategy.
It would impact the area in many damaging and irreversible ways including:
• Loss of nationally and internationally renowned vistas
• Loss of coastline’s natural habitat and biodiversity
• Impaired public access and overnight stopovers
• Increase in 24/7 noise and light pollution
• No net contribution to local amenities and utilities
• Negligible socio-economic gains for district
Entirely indefensible commercial exploitation
